Cairo Readiness Center - Armory
Cairo's historic Armory building is a well preserved structure which has stood the test of time. Constructed in 1931, this large facility has seen few changes to its original identity. The property houses a gymnasium, office spaces, an impressive foyer, and a large fenced-in parking area. As a condition of the sale of this property, there is an attached historic preservation covenant. This covenant requires that the successor maintains and preserves the property in accordance with the recommended approaches of the "Secretary of the Interiror's Standard for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings." The facility is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
NOTE: As a matter of policy, our Department does not pursue listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Specific questions on getting this building listed may be addressed to the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.
